Will our bankruptcy cause us to lose our stimulus payment?

My husband and I filed for bankruptcy. We were scheduled to get our stimulus payment on May 2nd, before they announced that they were moving up the payments. But we have not gotten it yet and I check on the irs website and they have no information on it. Will our bankruptcy take our payment?

I dont think bankruptcy in general has anything to do with the government, But maybe if you filed bankruptcy due to unpaid debts such as unpaid student loans…that could affect it.

I am having the SAME problem, except I was due to have mine deposited today. I have talked with my attorney (who couldn’t answer me) the IRS, (who again didn’t know) and finally the bankruptcy court. According to the court, my case was ‘over looked’ (convienently…) and they forgot to discharge me. So they said they’re discharging it, and then the IRS is going to release the payment to me. Just an idea - but that’s my problem. Now no one (including the IRS) can tell me whether I was still get mine direct deposited or if I have to wait for the paper check - which means another 5 weeks! UGH
